Hidden Gems Methodology
How EnvioGrid discovers lesser-known local spots, unique amenities, and off-the-beaten-path locations.

Discovery Methodology
Hidden gems are identified through a combination of:
- OSM Data Mining: We query for unique and lesser-known amenity types including local markets, art galleries, cultural centers, and specialty shops
- Density Analysis: Locations with fewer OSM tags or lower review counts are prioritized to surface lesser-known spots
- Category Diversity: We aim to surface a diverse range of location types rather than repeating the same categories
Selection Criteria
To qualify as a "hidden gem," a location should:
- Be locally owned or operated (where identifiable from OSM data)
- Offer unique value not found in chain establishments
- Have reasonable proximity to the ZIP code centroid
Limitations
- "Hidden gem" status is subjective โ what's hidden to one person may be well-known to another
- OSM data may not capture all unique local establishments
- We do not verify the quality or reputation of listed locations
